High Spring

It was my birthday this weekend, the 35th in fact. It's been a really big spring so far. I had picked up some blueberry bushes from one of the better nurseries in town and was looking for some pots. You know the routine, old whiskey barrels and feed troughs. I figured since I was out antiquing, I could pick up some antique crocks for some kitchen stuff. It's really ridiculous how overpriced this stuff is. Four stores later, I hadn't found a crock that wasn't fearfully overpriced, and the garden container pricing was even worse. I can get brand new feed troughs for 17 bucks at Tractor Supply, beat up ones shouldn't cost 35. Anyway, after several hours of frustrating antiquing later, I was about to walk out of the fourth store and found a beautiful handmade casserole dish for a pretty good price.

So a few cheap throughs later, I had vegetarian shepherd's pie in the oven and I was mixing potting soil for these amazing blueberry bush planters.

The picture doesn't do them justice (#iphonelife), but they're the cutest planters. Sometime this week, I'll rig up the AC condensation drain to a shallow dish in the middle there for a little frog habitat. I think a few shade friendly plants around the perimeter and some mulch will make it quite pretty. I'll throw some finished pics when it's done.

We started putting in a workshop finally. The company putting it together for us is really top notch. It isn't quite finished, but it will have an office/hobby area, a woodshop, an outdoor veggie processing station, and a huge coolbot cooler. Pretty exciting stuff! There's room behind it to add in a mini-deck with an outdoor shower and toilet as a later addition. The new well is put in too, and as soon as the plumbing is all fixed up with the new workshop, we're going to start our front yard orchard when irrigation is a reality.

I'm almost done with the front yard garden. Just a few butterfly bushes and milkweed in fact, and it's ready! Here's a pic (few weeks old) of it. I'll do a youtube video when I find my camera. It's nice to have a super pretty front yard.
